Erklärung der Polizei über Zugverspätungen in Manchester am Wochenende.

Trespassers on the line, between Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly, meant numerous services from Bolton were disrupted.

Operator, Northern, put on a rail replacement service for people getting from Manchester Piccadilly to the airport.

However, plenty of trains heading the opposite way on the line – towards Preston and Blackpool North – were cancelled, along with some services from Bolton to Manchester Airport also not running.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: „Officers were called to the line near Levenshulme railway station at around 2pm on 2 November to reports of a person in a precarious position.

„Officers attended alongside Greater Manchester Police, paramedics and fire and rescue, and a person was arrested in connection.“

The chaos meant people were having to get taxis from Manchester to as far as Lancaster, raising questions as to how people unable to afford cabs would get home.

Disruption on the Manchester Airport to Blackpool North line is nothing new, with Ontimetrains ranking multiple stations on the line, including Blackrod and Bolton, as some of the ‚worst‘ in the UK for punctuality.

Any travellers caught up in the chaos can request refunds by emailing: [email protected].

A Northern spokesperson said yesterday evening: „Due to trespassers on the railway Northern tickets may be used on board Manchester Metrolink Tram Services, TransPennine Express, East Midlands Railway, Transport for Wales & Cross Country services via any reasonable route until the end of the day.“
