For those who have experienced Business Class travel before, you may have noticed the meticulous design and planning that goes into making your journey as comfortable and relaxing as possible. Cathay Pacific, a premium Hong Kong airline, has elevated this experience to a whole new level in partnership with industrial design company JPA Design.
As part of the redesign of Cathay Pacific’s Boeing 777-300ER fleet, JPA Design has introduced two innovative designs: a ‚Gallery in the Skies‘ and seats tailored for passengers with reduced mobility. This collaboration stems from a longstanding partnership dating back to 2008 when they first worked together on revamping the airline’s wide-body cabins.
The recent interior redesign of the Boeing 777-300ER fleet involved a comprehensive cabin upgrade from nose to tail, aiming to provide the best possible experience for passengers in every cabin class. JPA Design focused on creating a cohesive interior that reflects the essence of Cathay Pacific’s on-ground experiences, aiming to make passengers feel comfortable and enchanted throughout their journey.
In response to Cathay Pacific’s vision of integrating Hong Kong’s art and culture into the flying experience, JPA Design introduced the ‚Gallery in the Skies‘, a unique concept that combines art and aviation. Featuring 30 artworks ranging from urban landscapes to dreamlike scenes, each aircraft now houses a distinct piece of art to inspire and elevate the passenger experience.
The Gallery’s design includes bespoke elements like mounted frames with illumination and shadow gaps, creating a gallery-like display onboard. Special aviation-grade materials were used to mimic authentic canvases, while informative placards with QR codes offer passengers the opportunity to learn more about the artworks and artists through onboard Wi-Fi.
Designed with the passenger experience in mind, ‚The Gallery in the Skies‘ provides a serene and immersive environment within the cabin, allowing passengers to step back and appreciate the artwork just like they would in a traditional gallery. With a privacy wall separating the gallery from other areas, passengers can enjoy a peaceful and inspiring space during their journey.
