Entering the creative industry can be challenging, even with the right qualifications. Whether it’s financial barriers, lack of representation, or intense competition, it can feel daunting to secure a job or freelance contract.
In 2020, The Arena, a not-for-profit creative community and mentoring platform, was established to empower aspiring creatives with the tools and confidence needed to start a creative career. Through virtual mentoring programs and speed mentoring events, they share valuable insights and advice.
Dom Edwards, a freelance brand designer, and Lauren Archer, a marketing manager/musician, lead The Arena. With their industry experience and commitment to equality, they aim to create opportunities for emerging creatives.
The goal is for participants in their program to support others in the future, creating a cycle of mentorship and growth within the creative community.
Over the last four years, Edwards and Archer have supported over 400 emerging creatives through mentorship. To expand their platform, they have launched The Lucky Dip Print Fundraiser, offering mystery prints for a donation of £10.
The fundraiser has received generous donations from members of the creative community, many of whom have been involved with The Arena. Na’im, a former mentee, describes the fundraiser as a „full-circle moment“ and is grateful for the support she received through the program.
Now, she and other former mentees and mentors are giving back by donating prints to help The Arena continue its valuable work in supporting emerging creatives.
