The Sex Pistols made a triumphant return to the 100 Club last night, nearly five decades after their iconic 1976 residency at the venue. The band performed a secret warm-up show for their upcoming Teenage Cancer Trust gig at the Royal Albert Hall. Photos, footage, and the setlist can be found below.
The punk legends reunited last year with Carter from Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and Gallows taking over as the frontman in place of John Lydon. After playing a few small gigs in London, they embarked on a UK tour and announced a headline show at the Royal Albert Hall to benefit Teenage Cancer Trust.
Last week, the band teased a gig at the 100 Club under the pseudonym „The SPOTS“ as a warm-up for their Royal Albert Hall show. The original Sex Pistols used this name in 1977 to book shows discreetly due to media scrutiny. The gig, attended by the likes of Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller, saw the band play their iconic 1977 album ‚Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols‘ in its entirety, along with b-sides, rarities, and covers.
Carter, along with original members Paul Cook and Glen Matlock, delivered a high-octane performance, with the crowd fully immersed in the energy of the band’s heyday. The setlist included classics like ‚God Save The Queen‘ and ‚Anarchy In The U.K.‘, as well as a few surprises.
Following their Royal Albert Hall show, the band will tour New Zealand and Australia before returning to the UK for summer festival performances. In an interview, guitarist Steve Jones mentioned that the band had not approached John Lydon to participate in the reunion shows, hinting at potential future collaborations. Es hat so viel Spaß gemacht und die Leute haben es geliebt, und ich habe geliebt, die Leute dabei zu beobachten, wie sie es lieben.
“Ich war bereit, das Handtuch zu werfen, mit dem Touren und allem. Es war mir egal. Aber mit Frank war es einfach. Wir alle verstehen uns. Es gibt kein Ärger. Es macht einfach Spaß!”
