Die magischen neuen Mythen- und Legenden-Briefmarken der Royal Mail – erstellt vom Illustrator Adam Simpson

Next time a letter is sent in Britain, consider having it delivered by one of the captivating figures from British and Irish folklore. From Selkies to Beowulf to Finn McCool or Blodeuwedd, the Royal Mail has released a special edition set of stamps featuring these enchanting characters and creatures.

Illustrated by Adam Simpson, each stamp showcases intricate details and colors that bring the myths to life. Simpson’s process involved researching the myths, sketching ideas, and collaborating with the Royal Mail team to perfect the imagery for each stamp.

Despite the small canvas of a stamp, Simpson’s illustrations are rich in detail, capturing the magic and mystery of each narrative. From mischievous Cornish piskies to the graceful Selkie, each stamp tells a unique story.

Adam’s favorite stamp features Blodeuwedd, a Welsh maiden created from flowers. The process of illustrating characters like Beowulf and Grendel presented challenges, such as depicting the intensity of their battle without being too graphic.

Using a mix of natural and digital media, Adam brought his sketches to life and refined them through feedback from the Royal Mail Stamp Advisory Committee. The release of the Myths and Legends stamps aligns with the resurgence of interest in folklore across various forms of media.
