Maya Ish-Shalom, an illustrator from Tel-Aviv, Israel, is known for creating digital and hand-drawn illustrations for various projects including books, brands, ad campaigns, animations, and publications like the New York Times, FT, and Washington Post.
Recently, Maya released her first graphic novel, which delves into themes of displacement, identity, and belonging. „Home Bound,“ published by Salomon & Daughters, is a silent book that follows the story of a woman and her suitcase searching for a place to call home in a world that blends surrealism, dystopia, fairytale, and horror.
For Maya, this project is not just about finding a physical home but also about exploring deeper concepts of belonging, safety, and connection. Drawing from her own experiences of living between worlds, Maya infuses her editorial illustration expertise into this personal narrative.
Having graduated from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, Maya’s visual style is a mix of precision and dreamlike elements, reflecting her journey of finding a sense of home and belonging after returning to Israel from New York.
