There is renewed scrutiny on Tulsi Gabbard’s support for national security leakers and promotion of Russian-backed narratives after President-elect Trump nominated her for the highest intelligence post in the country.
If confirmed as director of national intelligence (DNI), Gabbard would be responsible for managing information from all 18 intelligence agencies.
The DNI helps create the president’s daily intelligence briefing, and Gabbard would play a crucial role in advising Trump on national security decisions.
Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), a former CIA officer, expressed concern about Gabbard’s nomination, highlighting her controversial statements and lack of high-level national security experience.
Gabbard’s past comments praising Russia and supporting Edward Snowden, as well as her meeting with Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, have raised alarm in the national security community.
Her history of expressing disinformation has also led to questions about her ability to handle intelligence and maintain trust with allies.
Some voices have supported Gabbard’s nomination, citing her military background as a strength in understanding threats.
However, concerns remain about her lack of experience leading large agencies and her qualifications for the DNI role.
Despite differing opinions, both sides have expressed opinions on Trump’s choice of Gabbard for the position.
