In Gaza, at least six Palestinian newborn babies have tragically passed away due to the severe cold, lack of shelter, heating, and inadequate humanitarian aid. The harsh winter conditions have led to premature infants experiencing various health complications, including low body temperatures, breathing difficulties, and organ dysfunction.
Despite efforts by the Friends of the Patient Charity Hospital to treat these infants, sadly, five of the nine cases resulted in fatalities. The dire situation in Gaza, worsened by the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, has left displaced families with minimal shelter and no protection from the cold weather.
The challenging living conditions in Gaza, with many families relying on makeshift tents for shelter, have made it difficult for infants and children to survive the winter. The lack of basic necessities like warm clothing and proper shelter has contributed to the deaths of several babies due to hypothermia.
Despite efforts to provide humanitarian aid, including tents and medical supplies, the situation remains dire for Palestinians in Gaza. The international community must acknowledge the urgency of the situation to prevent further loss of life in the region.
